WASHINGTON (December 21, 2023) – Fifth-year guard
Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.) led her team with 14 points and senior forward
Kaiya Creek (Seat Pleasant, Md.) chipped in 12 points, but it was enough to offset the scoring of Hofstra's Emma Von Essen and Anya Brooke, who combined for 35 points to lead the Pride to a 58-49 win over Howard University in a nonconference women's game at Burr Gymnasium.
With Warren, the Bison (2-11) was able to take a 17-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Then, the Pride (6-4) got going with the inside play of Brooke and the outside shooting Von Essen.
The third quarter has been a thorn in the side of the Bison all season. It happened again as Howard was able to only score seven points, missing 14-of-15 shots in the period, including a scoreless drought of over six minutes.
The Bison did outscore the visitors, 15-14, in the final stanza, but the Pride's lead of 13 was too much to overcome as time ran out.
Von Essen led all scorers with 18 points while Brooke added 13 rebounds and 17 points.
NEXT UP: Howard closes out the 2023 portion when it hosts American University Saturday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. inside The Burr.
