CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (December 2, 2023) – Howard University women's track & field team opened its 2023 indoor season with an impressive victory at the annual HBCU & Ivy Challenge, hosted by Harvard.
Overall, the Bison racked up 123 points with five first-place finishes.
On the track, graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston) and third-year Bison
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) placed first (7.54) and second (7.57), respectively, in the 60-meter dash. The DMV native also competed in the 300-meter dash, earning bronze in the event at 39.24.
Senior
Breanna McDonald (Bethesda, Md.) and junior
Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) received gold (3:06.29) and silver (3:07.27), respectively, in the 1000-meter run.
Graduates
Cathrina Morris (Auburndale, Fla.) and
Simone Watkins (Frisco, Texas) went first (8.60) and second (8.62), respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles.
Morris, Pittman, sophomore
Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) and rookie
Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) represented HU in the 4x440 relay, finishing second with a 3:58.76 mark.
In the field events, graduate
Nyagoa Bayak (Westbrook, Mass.) claimed gold in the high jump (1.72 meters), scoring nine points for the Bison.
Sophomores
Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) and
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) took first (11.63 meters) and second (11.58 meters), respectively, in the triple jump. Both Bison also competed in the long jump, earning second (5.61 meters) and third (5.59 meters), respectively.
Harvard finished second with 90 points, followed by Dartmouth (83) and Delaware State (62).
On Dec. 8, HU splits up for a pair of meets: Clemson Opener (Clemson, S.C.) & Seahawk Shootout (Staten Island, N.Y.).
