Scott Among Coaches Selected for the 2024 AllState HBCU Legacy Bowl

Bison head coach set to lead Team Gaither in annual event

NEW ORLEANS (December 19, 2023) – The Black College Football Hall of Fame (BCFHOF) revealed its head coaches for the 2024 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl where Howard University's Larry Scott was among the coaches selected for the annual event. The announcement came Tuesday morning.

Both teams will have two co-head coaches.

Scott, along with Virginia Union head coach Alvin Parker, leads Team Gaither, in honor of legendary Florida A&M (FAMU) coach Jake Gaither. The squad consists of student-athletes from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). Defensive Lineman Darrian Brokenburr (Manassas, Va.), offensive lineman Anim Dankwah (Ontario, Canada), running back/return specialist Ian Wheeler (Houston) and quarterback Quinton Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) are among the Bison competing in this year's game.

In his third full season at the helm, Scott led HU to back-to-back MEAC titles, including the program's first outright championship since 1993.

Additionally, he guided the Bison to their first-ever berth to the Cricket Celebration Bowl after knocking off conference rivals No. 7 North Carolina Central (NCCU) and Morgan State in the final two weeks of the regular season.

After the victory over NCCU, the team earned FCS National Team of the Week.

FAMU head coach Willie Simmons and former Benedict College head coach Chennis Berry lead Team Robinson, in honor of the legendary Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson. The team consists of student-athletes from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

"Each of these coaches embody the winning and competitive spirit of the Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl, we are proud to have these great men who exemplify the spirit, leadership and tradition of HBCU Football," said NFL QB legend and Black College Football Hall of Fame Co-Founder James "Shack" Harris.

The 2024 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl takes place Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at Tulane University's Yulman Stadium in New Orleans.
