Smithfield, R.I. (November 20, 2023) ---The Howard University men's basketball team rallied from a 16-point second half deficit to get within four, but it was not enough as the Bison fell to Bryant University, 67-61, in a nonconference game at the Chace Athletic Center.
The Bison (2-4) are playing without the services of several players and it showed as they fell behind early and trailed, 36-24, at halftime to the Bulldogs (3-3).
Howard was unable to score with any consistency, hitting on only 23-percent from the field, 21-percent from the beyond the arc.
Bryant was able to get the lead on the strength of the scoring senior guard Earl Timberlake, former All-Met at DeMatha.
The Bulldogs continued to take advantage of the Bison's cold shooting early in the half until sophomore forward
Shy Odom (Roxbury, Mass.), junior guard
Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) and graduate forward
Seth Towns (Columbus, Ohio) combined for 28 points that included a 14-0 run during a seven-minute stretch to cut the deficit to four, 61-57, with 2:19 remaining in regulation.
Bryant responded and made just enough shots down the stretch to keep the streaking Bison at bay and secure the win to hand HU its second straight loss.
Odom and Towns scored 16 points each and Harris and reserve graduate guard
Jelani Williams (Washington) contributed 11 points and eight points, respectively.
The Bulldogs were led by Timberlake, who led all scorers with 19 points while Connor Withers (15 points) and Sherif Gross-Bullock (nine points & five assists) contributing in the victory.
