NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (October 29, 2023) – Howard University men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker at Central Connecticut State (CCSU), 2-1.
HU grabbed the upper hand early, thanks to an unassisted goal from senior
Nathan Leggett (Apex, N.C.), 1-0.
Despite CCSU outshooting the Bison before intermission, 8-4, Howard kept the Blue Devils at bay.
Moments after halftime, CCSU's Zane Brown found Austin Rocke and tied the contest, 1-1.
With time dwindling, the Blue Devils' Jakob Welle-Smogeli scored the go-ahead goal at the 84-minute mark to give Central Connecticut State the victory, 2-1.
All-NEC selection junior
Bryson Baker (Ellicott City, Md.) led the Bison attack with a team-leading four shots.
Defensively, senior goalie
Benjamin Hoesli (Bern, Switzerland) recorded five saves in the loss.
Thursday (Nov. 2), Howard closes out the regular season with conference-leading Saint Francis on Senior Night. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m., at Greene Stadium.
