WASHINGTON (Oct. 17, 2023) – The Howard University women's volleyball team will face rival Morgan State (MSU) Wednesday (Oct. 18) at 6 p.m., inside Hill Field House in Baltimore.
MATCHUP PREVIEW
HOWARD
HU (8-11, 4-2 MEAC) is fresh off a conference win where they beat the Norfolk State Spartans in straight sets, 3-0. The Bison are going strong in league play and have a great chance to move up the standings with a victory over the Lady Bears.
Graduate setter
Kayla Diaz (Rockland, N.Y.) continues to perform and produce for the Bison. The New York native has been an offensive threat, ranking 32
nd in the nation in aces per set (.48) and leading the bison in total service aces (31).
Sophomore outside hitter
Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) ranks third in the MEAC and continues to be a pivotal player for HU, leading the team and conference in kills per set (3.80), total points (280), points per set (4.24), kills per set (3.80) and total kills (251).
The Bison are third in the MEAC standings with eight league matches remaining.
MORGAN STATE
Morgan State (6-14, 1-4 MEAC) sits seventh in the MEAC, looking to bounce back from a 3-1 loss at Norfolk State Sunday (Oct. 8).
Junior right outside hitter Ainara Fernandes (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) ranks 9
th nationally in aces per set (0.58) and leads the conference in total service aces (38).
LAST TIMEOUT
In their previous match (Oct. 13), the Lady Bison took care of business at home on Senior Night with a sweep of Norfolk State, 3-0, inside Burr Gymnasium.
Diaz finished with 34 assists and five digs in the win.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Following Wednesday's clash, Howard faces North Carolina Central and South Carolina State back-to-back on the road at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22, and 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23.
