WASHINGTON (July 6, 2022) – Howard University rising senior journalism major
Shianne Knight continued the Senior Spotlight series with another graduate edition, featuring
Randall Brumant (Houston) from the men's basketball team.
Q: What is your favorite part about basketball?
A: My favorite part about basketball is the creativity combined with the pace because having to think and adjust on the fly with my teammates is really fun.
Q: Did you play any sports other than basketball?
A: I played soccer until high school and I also ran track. My junior year of high school, I did high jump and got fifth in state final.
Q: Who is the biggest role model in your life?
A: My parents are my biggest role models. They are both immigrants from the Caribbean and it's inspiring to me that they came to America with very little and worked so hard to provide my siblings and I the life we have today.
Q: What's your favorite sport to watch at Howard?
A: Oh man, it's a tie between volleyball and soccer. Since I stopped playing soccer, I've loved watching it more and more and our volleyball team is really good. The atmosphere in Burr is always great.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I plan to play professional basketball overseas.
Q: What advice would you give to future Bison?
A: At Howard, I can guarantee that there will be other people interested in the same things as you. So, pursue the things you enjoy and you'll meet some great people along the way.
Q: Favorite moment at Howard so far?
No doubt, definitely Bison Madness because that was my first taste of what the energy was like on campus and inside The Burr. It was wild.
Q: As a graduate student, what would you describe as the biggest differences between your graduate and undergraduate experiences?
A: Socially, I was a lot less "lost." When I first stepped onto a college campus, I didn't really know what to expect or how to navigate in making all new friends.
Academically, things just got more intense. Even though I had less time in class, the amount and difficulty of the work was way tougher.
Q: What areas of your life have you seen the biggest growth over your collegiate years (on or off court)?
A: I'd say managing things to do or organizing because being a college student-athlete for five years, I've had to balance practice, treatment, schoolwork and a social life.
Q: What or who will you miss the most from Howard University?
A: I'll miss the community of talented and driven individuals because being around people who look like you and are striving for greatness is an unmatched experience.
