GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 9, 2022) – Howard University women's track & field team shined at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.
On the afternoon, HU won four events (three individual and one relay).
Senior thrower
Diana Effiom (Dallas) headlined the day with a record-setting performance. The Dallas native competed in the hammer throw where she won the event, tossing nearly 180 feet (54.78 meters), which shattered her previous record by nearly three meters (51.97 meters).
On the track, seniors
Jessika Gbai (Philadelphia) and
Ameenah Saalih (Willingboro, N.J.) and freshmen
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and
Lamaria Washington (Miami) represented HU in the 4x100 relay event where they took first-place with a 45.45 time.
Gbai won the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 23.66, while Pittman earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 100-meter (11.85) and 200-meter (24.29) races.
Senior
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) continued her hot streak, winning the 400-meter dash with a 52.63 mark. Fellow classmate
Ozioma Scott (Georgetown, Guyana) also participated in the event, taking third overall (53.83).
Sophomore
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) reached the 100-meter hurdles final with a 13.91 time. In the final, the Maryland product placed third overall (13.90).
Other notable performance included senior
Melanie White (Orlando, Fla.) finishing third overall in the 1500-meter run, producing a 4:47.52 time.
On April 15-16, Howard continues its spring season in Norfolk, Va., for the Norfolk State Invitational, hosted by the Spartans.
