CARY, N.C. (April 10, 2022) – Howard University softball team completed the season sweep at North Carolina Central (NCCU), topping the Eagles, 12-2 [f/5], at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C.
With the win, HU improved to 17-19 (8-3 MEAC) while extending its season-high five-game win streak.
Howard registered 12 runs on seven hits, led by freshman
Lealani Ricks (Madera, Calif.) going 2-of-3 with three runs scored in the win.
North Carolina Central grabbed the upper hand early, thanks to a pair of solo homers in the opening frame, 2-0.
Top three, the Bison took their first lead with a six-run inning and never looked back, 6-2.
Next inning, HU extended the margin and held a seven-run advantage after four, 9-2.
In the fifth, Howard added three more runs and ballooned the margin to double digits, 12-2.
Senior
Xzarria Simmons (Escondido, Calif.) recorded two RBIs and two runs scored while fellow classmate
Ayana Sallee (Chesapeake, Va.) drove in a pair of runs off the bench.
Senior pitcher
Sydney Hixenbaugh (Millstone, N.J.) picked up her third victory of the season in a reserve role, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing no runs.
In the three-game span against NCCU, Howard tallied 35 runs on 26 hits.
For the Eagles (9-23, 6-6 MEAC), Jaden Davis went a perfect 3-of-3 with an RBI and run scored in the loss.
Wednesday (April 13), the Bison wrap up their road swing at crosstown rival George Washington. First-pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
