Bison move on after 87-51 victory over Delaware State

NORFOLK, Va. (March 9, 2022) – No. 1 Howard University women's basketball team advanced to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Semifinal Round after an 87-51 victory over No. 8 Delaware State (DSU) inside the Norfolk Scope Arena.

"It was a good day today," said Howard women's basketball head coach Ty Grace postgame. "We shot the ball well, competed and forced turnovers. That was our game plan going into the game."

Howard dominated the paint, scoring 40 points, while registering 26 points off turnovers.

A dozen Bison scored in the win, led by All-MEAC selections sophomores Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y.) and Anzhane' Hutton (Dallas). Howell finished with a team-leading 16 points while the Dallas native fell just short of a double-double (11 points and nine rebounds).

"We played a very good all-around game today," said Howell. "My teammates kept finding me and everyone contributed to the win."

Moments into the first period, DSU took the early lead after Breazaia Robinson split a pair of free throws, 3-2.

Midway through the first frame, second-year Bison Kaniyah Harris (Capital Heights, Md.) connected on two freebies and gave the advantage back to Howard, which they never relinquished.

After closing out the first quarter with a 17-2 run, HU kept the pressure on and outscored Delaware State in the second period, 28-7, and took a 47-12 halftime lead.

Howard shot 50-percent (9-of-18) after intermission and extended the margin to 42 points through three quarters, 65-23.

Both clubs shot 50-percent in the final frame, but DSU outscored Howard in the fourth, 28-22.

Senior Krislyn Marsh (Houston) pulled down a game-high 11 boards while producing eight points and four blocks (career-high) in the victory.

DSU ended its season winless under first-year head coach E.C. Hill (0-24). Janasia Law notched a double-double (18 points and 11 boards) in the loss.
