Women’s Basketball Closes Out Regular Season at Norfolk State

Bison travel to Spartans for rivalry rematch

WASHINGTON (March 3, 2022) – Howard University women's basketball team travels to Norfolk State (NSU) for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rival rematch in their regular season finale. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Joseph Echols Memorial Hall.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
Thursday's showdown will be the 54th meeting between Howard and Norfolk State with the Bison leading the all-time series, 34-19.
 
On Feb. 10, the Bison upset Norfolk State,71-67, inside Burr Gymnasium.
 
In the matchup, sophomores Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y) and Anzhane' Hutton (Dallas) had 19 points apiece while fellow classmate Kaniyah Harris (Capitol Heights, Md.) added 11 points in the win.
 
HOWARD
 
The Bison (17-8, 11-2 MEAC) are looking to continue their winning streak to eight while winning their first MEAC regular season outright title since the 2001-02 campaign.
 
Howell, Hutton and junior Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.) spearhead the league's top scoring attack (65.1 ppg).
 
Hutton, senior Krislyn Marsh (Houston) and third-year Bison Brooklynn Fort-Davis (Chicago) anchor the defensive end.
 
NORFOLK STATE
 
The Spartans (14-10, 10-3 MEAC) were upset by the Bison in early February at Burr Gymnasium. Junior guard Deja Francis leads Norfolk State in scoring (13.4 ppg) and can pose some threats for the Bison.
 
The Spartans have a history of performing well at home, holding an 8-2 record inside Echols Hall.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On Monday (Feb. 28), the Bison defeated South Carolina State after a hard-fought battle, 64-48, inside The Burr.
 
Fort-Davis and Marsh finished with double-doubles against the Lady Bulldogs. Fort-Davis produced 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Marsh contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Despite shooting roughly 34-percent (22-of-65), the Bison pulled through defensively and found a way to secure their seventh consecutive win.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Next weekend (March 9-12), the Bison will compete in the MEAC Tournament in Norfolk, Va. The bracket will be announced after the regular season.
