WASHINGTON (March 24, 2022) – Howard University softball team fell to Hofstra, 4-1, at Washington Nationals Youth Academy in southeast D.C.
With the setback, HU dropped to 10-18 while the Pride improved to 6-16 on the season.
Howard produced one run on five hits, led by senior
Xzarria Simmons (Escondido, Calif.) going 2-of-3 on the afternoon.
After a scoreless first inning, Hofstra crossed home plate four times in the second, thanks to a pair of errors, 4-0.
Hofstra's Haley Venturini kept the Bison off balance throughout, tossing a complete game while striking out eight batters.
Bottom six, newcomer
Lealani Ricks (Madera, Calif.) delivered an RBI-single up-the-middle to score senior
Camille Navarro (Los Angeles) and cut the deficit to three after six innings of play, 4-1.
In their final at-bat, Howard managed to get the leadoff hitter on first, but moments later, a lined out into a double play, followed by a pop up to third ended the contest.
Senior
Tracy Mosley (Jonesboro, Ga.) had a solid performance coming out the bullpen, throwing five innings and striking out four batters.
On March 26-27, Howard wraps up its homestand against conference rival Coppin State. Saturday's (March 26) doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. and Sunday (March 27) single, seven-inning game starts at noon.
