BALTIMORE (December 3, 2022) - Howard university women's swimming & diving team closed out the midway point of the year at Loyola's H2ounds Invitational Saturday afternoon. With a score of 824, the Bison placed third overall at the end of the two-day session (Dec. 2-3).
On the first day, first-year standout Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) set a school record with her second-place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 5:06.13. The performance sets her atop the conference leaderboard in the event.
Freshman Skylar Debanm (Chandler, Ariz.) set a school best the following day, swimming the 1650 Free in 17:51.93.
The 200-Free Relay consisting of Nwaeze, Kelsey Roberson (West Orange, N.J.), Michaela Spears (Chicago, Ill.), and Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.) finished second overall (1:37.38).
Fountain also put on an exciting performance in a nail-biting 50 Free, missing first place by .01 seconds. Her season best of 23.78 leads the Northeast Conference.
Other conference leading performances from the weekend included Courtney Connolly (White Lake, Mich.) in the 100-Butterfly (57.90).
Connolly, Nwaeze, Fountain and sophomore Zaylie Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) competed in the 200 Medley Relay where they placed runner-up (1:46.15).
The Bison are back in action next year (January 14) as they host UMBC.
