WASHINGTON, DC - Destiny Howell scored a team
-high 21 points and
Aziah Hudson added 12 but a fourth quarter surge was not enough as Howard University women fell 65-54 to North Texas in Sunday's non-conference game at Burr Gymnasium. The loss marks their third straight setback,
The Bison (3-8) played the visitors through most of the game and only trailed by four, 50-46 at the end of three. But the Mean Green (3-6) outscored the Bison, 15-8 to snap their three-game losing skid.
"Simply put, we never took advantage of the chance to pull away in the game," said Howard Head Coach
Ty Grace in the post-game. "We didn't capitalize on the turnovers we forced and we had too many empty possessions, hence the eight fourth quarter points."
Howell, a junior first team all-conference guard, connected on 8 of 20 from the field and added three assists, but she missed the contributions of backcourt mate and team second- leading scorer,
Iyanna Warren who came off the bench and played nine minutes and scoring two free throws, 11 points under her average.
Kaniyah Harris started in her place and added six rebounds and seven assists in a losing effort. The Bison were outrebounded, 41-29 and the bench was outscored, 12-4.
" We have to show up, compete and produce; we just aren't playing great basketball right now," explained Coach Grace. "It is up to us to get through these challenges, to be better, and we will."
NEXT UP: Howard will travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take on Duquesne this Wednesday in a rare 11 am tipoff.
