DURHAM, N.C. (November 4, 2022) – Howard University women's volleyball team grabbed a road win at North Carolina Central (NCCU) in straight sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-13).
With the victory, HU improved to 9-2 in league play (16-9 overall) while snapping its brief two-match slide.
Freshman standout
Rya McKinnon (Bessemer, Ala.) led the way with a double-double (12 kills & 12 digs) for HU.
NCCU (5-18, 4-8 MEAC) held a slim 8-6 edge in set one until the Bison went on a 7-0 run to take the lead and game one, 25-17.
In game two, Howard led from start-to-finish while eclipsing a .357 hitting percentage. HU's dominant performance gave the Bison a commanding 2-0 match advantage.
Both squads went back-and-forth early on in game three until the Bison created separation midway through the set. HU held a 15-11 lead and closed out the contest with a 10-2 spurt.
Senior setter
Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) registered 33 assists, five digs and five service aces in the victory.
A trio of Eagles recorded seven kills in the loss.
Sunday (Nov. 6), Howard travels to Orangeburg, S.C. to face the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
