ST. THOMAS, VIRGIN ISLANDS (November 19, 2022) – Howard University freshman forward
Shy Odom (Chatsworth, Calif.) scored a team-high 14 points off the bench and sophomore guard
Marcus Dockery (Washington) contributed 10 points to help the Bison defeat Buffalo, 63-59, in the second round of the Paradise Jam at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center.
The Bison (3-4) trailed, 39-32, in the first half but a 9-0 run to start the second provided a boost. Odom, who has been nursing injuries in the beginning of the season, connected on 4-of-8 shots and 6-of-9 from the line while adding six rebounds. He has scored 24 points in the past two games off the bench.
Dockery also helped the cause as he hit 2-of-4 three pointers and grabbed seven rebounds.
Howard parlayed its bench strength (26-8), advantage in the paint (26-18) and its defense, which scored 20 points off Buffalo turnovers into the formula that snapped the two-game skid.
Redshirt junior
Steve Settle, III (Glenarden, Md.) added 12 points and eight rebounds while D.C. native second-year Bison
Elijah Hawkins produced 12 points, four assists and three steals in the victory.
Buffalo (1-4) was led by Curtis Jones with a game-high 22 points and Yazid Powell chipped in 17 points.
Howard will play Belmont Monday (Nov. 21) at 4:15 p.m. (ET).
