Women’s Soccer Edges Out Terriers in Home Finale

Bison take down St. Francis-Brooklyn

WASHINGTON (October 16, 2022) – Howard University women's soccer team found a way to pull out a victory over St. Francis-Brooklyn (SFC) in their home finale at Greene Stadium, 2-1.

With the win, HU (3-10-1, 2-5 NEC) secured back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

At the 24-minute mark, redshirt freshman Rachel Suttle (Atlanta) scored her first goal as a Bison off a header, thanks to a corner kick assist from senior Thalia Boucher (Toronto, Canada), 1-0.

Howard took a 1-0 advantage at the break, but SFC (1-9-3, 2-5 NEC) refused to go away.

St. Francis-Brooklyn's Sevaste Mitsopoulos found Lauren Taylor to tie the contest at one apiece with less than 27 minutes remaining.

Nearly five minutes later, junior midfielder Nyla Allen (Elmont, N.Y.) recorded the go-ahead goal, thanks to a blocked shot from second-year Bison Melea Earley (La Mirada, Calf.), 2-1.

Overall, the Bison outshot SFC, 25-5, and had eight corner kick opportunities in the match.

Before the match, HU recognized four Bison competing in their final home match at Greene Stadium: Shianne Knight (The Woodlands, Texas); Kaylani Lee Green (Stafford, Va.); Madison Myles (Atlanta) and Adrianna Reece-Newman (Springfield, Va.).

Howard closes out the regular season with a pair of road contests, beginning Thursday (Oct. 20) at Stonehill College. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
