ORANGEBURG, S.C. (January 31, 2022) – Howard University men's basketball team suffered a tough road loss at South Carolina State (SCSU), 58-55, inside the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
With the setback, HU dropped to 8-10 (2-3 MEAC) on the year while going 2-2 during its four-game road trip.
Despite 10 Bison scoring in the contest, Howard recorded a season-low 55 points on the night. Graduate
Kyle Foster (Hampton, Va.) was the lone Bison in double figures, tallying 13 points and three rebounds in a losing effort.
South Carolina State held a six-point lead in the opening period after a long ball from Omar Croskey, 15-9, but the Bison would battle back.
HU capped off a 13-4 run with a layup from graduate
Sam Green (Bowie, Md.) and gave the Bison a four-point lead with more than two minutes before intermission, 22-19.
Croskey cut the margin to one, but a pair of freebies from redshirt sophomore
Steve Settle, III (Glenarden, Md.) put HU ahead by three at the break, 24-21.
Howard pushed the lead to eight after an old-fashion three-point play from graduate
Tai Bibbs (Chicago), 40-32, but the Bulldogs fought back.
South Carolina State erased the second-half deficit with a 15-6 run and took the lead with more than six minutes left, 47-46.
In the waning moments, Settle tied the contest at 53 apiece, but SCSU outscored Howard, 5-2, in the final 100 ticks, 58-55.
Graduate
Randall Brumant (Houston) pulled down a season-best 12 boards in the loss.
For SCSU (11-11, 3-3 MEAC), Croskey led all scorers with 16 points while Jemai Davis added 13 points. Deaquan Williams notched a double-double (11 boards and 10 points) in the win.
On Feb. 5, Howard returns home to face Maryland Eastern Shore. Game-time is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside The Burr.
