BALTIMORE, MD – The Howard University Bison women's basketball team drops a heart breaker to the Morgan State University Bears after a strong start in the Hill Field House, 67-61 Saturday afternoon in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) action.
Howard falls to 7-7, 1-1 MEAC, while Morgan State improves to 7-5, 1-1 MEAC.
Howard started the contest on a 12-3 run in a four-minute span, capped by a
Destiny Howell jumper. Howell pace the Bison offense attack recording 14 points before fouling out and shot 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. The Bears answered back with a 9-3 run to end the first quarter, down 15-11.
The Bison and the Bears played a back-and-forth affair when Morgan St. clawed back and took the lead on a long-range jumper to grab a 26-25 lead 34-second lead. Howard's
Kaniyah Harris made a free throw to tie the game 26-26 as the first half ended.
Howard and Morgan St. traded baskets throughout the third quarter; the Bison two made three-pointers was the difference taking a 45-39 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Bears slashed the deficit and took a 52-51 lead with 5:20 left. The Bison got to within two-points with 32 seconds left but couldn't get the ball to fall. Howard shooting went cold in the fourth quarter, shooting 33 percent from the floor.
Three Bison scored in double-figures led by Brooklyn Fort-Davis game-high 15 points off the bench, Howell [14] and
Iyanna Warren [13].
Anzhane' Hutton recorded nine points and a game-high eight rebounds.
