WASHINGTON (January 14, 2022) – Howard University men's basketball team returns to the hardwood to battle Norfolk State (NSU) in their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. inside Burr Gymnasium.

COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Effective January 15, 2022, in compliance with the District of Columbia's Vaccination DC policy, all guests ages 12 years and older are required to show proof of vaccination to enter Burr Gymnasium.
PLEASE NOTE: Burr Gymnasium will be operating at 50-percent capacity during events until further notice.
Guests age 12 and older must provide proof of having received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by January 15, 2022 to enter. For those taking a two-dose vaccine, Pfizer or Moderna, proof of a second dose will be required for entry beginning February 15, 2022.
MATCHUP PREVIEW
Saturday's showdown will be the 60
th meeting between Howard and Norfolk State with the Spartans leading the all-time series, 48-11.
HOWARD
HU (6-6) returns to action after more than three weeks away due to COVID-19 protocols. Howard continues to rank among the league leaders offensively despite the layoff, topping the conference with 79.6 points per game (ppg).
Nationally, the Bison are ranked top 15 in three-point percentage (39-percent), led by graduate
Kyle Foster (Hampton, Va.). The Virginia native sits third in the country, shooting nearly 51-percent (42-of-82) from long range.
Three-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week
Elijah Hawkins (Washington) registers 6.9 assists per game, which ranks fourth in the nation.
Redshirt sophomore
Steve Settle, III (Glenarden, Md.) adds 13.6 ppg while shooting 55-percent (62-of-119) from the floor.
NORFOLK STATE
NSU (10-4, 1-0 MEAC) enters Saturday after picking up a road win at Delaware State, 80-51. Norfolk State leads the MEAC in multiple defensive categories, including scoring defense (62.6 ppg). Nationally, the Spartans rank seventh in field goal percentage defense (.372).
Joe Bryant leads the Spartans attack, averaging 15.2 ppg, which ranks second in the league behind Coppin State's Jesse Zarzuela (15.7 ppg).
LAST TIMEOUT
On Dec. 22, the Bison erased an 18-point deficit, but was unable to complete the comeback, falling to Ivy League perennial powerhouse Harvard, 77-69, inside Lavietes Pavilion.
Settle led the Bison attack, tallying 18 points on 6-of-9 from the floor.
