WASHINGTON (September 2, 2021) – Howard University women's soccer team came up short, falling to the Longwood (LU) Lancers, 2-1, at Greene Stadium.
Despite outshooting LU, 11-6, while controlling the match throughout, Longwood found the back of the net twice.
LU's Madison Hommey found Kylie Tusant at the 26-minute mark and put the Lancers ahead at halftime, 1-0.
After intermission, Kiersten Yuhas extended the lead on an unassisted goal, 2-0.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, newcomer
Melea Earley (Whittier, Calif.) scored her second career goal off an assist by senior
Thalia Boucher (Ontario, Toronto) and cut the deficit to one, 1-2.
HU picked up their intensity in the waning moments but ran out of time.
Early took a match-high four shots on the night while graduate
Alayah Hightower (Mitchellville, Md.) recorded a pair of saves in the loss.
Thursday (Sept. 9), the Bison welcome Loyola (Md.) to Greene Stadium. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
