Volleyball Falls Short Against Harvard

Bria Woodard with a season-high 19 kills

WASHINGTON (September 17, 2021) - Howard University women's volleyball team suffered a loss against Harvard (23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21) in Burr Gymnasium.
 
First-year Bison Bria Woodard (Missouri City, Texas) led the way with a match-high 19 kills and eight digs.
 
The Bison fought hard from the beginning with outside Hitter Alex Smith (New Orleans) striking a kill on the first play of the match. She had 10 kills, three digs, and two blocks in the loss.
 
The Bison took control early in the first set with three service aces from Busisiwe Banda (Cedar Park, Texas), but Harvard (1-6) quickly charged back after several attack and kill errors, tying game one, 22-22. An attack error from Harvard's Ashley Wang gave Howard the 24-23 lead. Then, a kill by middle blocker Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) closed out set one. Wells ended the night with seven total blocks (three solo) and six kills.
 
Howard trailed the entire second set as Harvard's Nicole Prescott led the way with six kills and two digs in game two.
 
With exhilarating cheers from the crowd, the Bison battled back in set three and four, but ultimately, loss momentum and fell short in the match.
 
Senior Milexa Cardona (Kissimmee, Florida) had a double-double (36 assists and 11 digs), along with three kills, while freshman Cimone Woodard (Missouri City, Texas) added seven kills, four total blocks and three digs in a losing effort.
 
Prescott finished the contest leading Harvard with a double-double (17 kills and 15 digs) in the victory.
 
The Bison will host American inside Burr Gymnasium Tuesday (Sept. 21). Match time is set for 6 p.m.
