WASHINGTON (August 29, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team suffered their first setback of the season, falling at George Mason in straight sets (16-25, 19-25, 16-25).
With the loss, HU dropped to 2-1 on the young season.
Rookie
Bria Woodard (Missouri City, Texas) led the way with a match-high nine kills and a pair of blocks (one solo) in the loss.
Mason led all three sets from start to finish throughout the afternoon. Howard tied the games multiple times, but unable to pull ahead.
Third-year setter
Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) produced 19 assists and six digs while freshman
Taylor Johnson added 12 digs (team-best) in a losing effort.
For Mason (2-0), Peyton Ehmke registered nine kills and four blocks (match-best) in the victory.
On Sept. 3-4, the Bison travel to Durham, N.C., for the Duke Invitational where they will face the College of Charleston, Miami (Ohio) and the host Blue Devils.
