WASHINGTON (August 26, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team begins its 2021 fall campaign with a trio of DMV (D.C.-Maryland-Virginia) rivals.
Friday (Aug. 27), HU opens the season against crosstown foe George Washington (GW). First serve at 6 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. match time Saturday (Aug. 28) versus Georgetown (GU) inside The Burr. Howard concludes the weekend with George Mason in Fairfax, Va. The contest is slated for 1 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE: Fans in attendance at Burr Gymnasium must wear a face mask/cover throughout the duration of the match.
SEASON PREVIEW
Howard enters the fall season looking to recapture the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship. Before last year, the Bison won five consecutive MEAC titles under head coach
Shaun Kupferberg.
This season, HU brings back MEAC All-Rookie selections
Jennifer Bolden (Los Angeles) and
Amari Patterson (Waukegan, Ill.), alongside 2019 MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player senior
Kailyn Williams (Arlington, Texas).
During the offseason, Coach Kupferberg added eight talented Bison to the 2021 fall roster.

GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington enters the weekend looking to bounce back after going 1-9 a year ago. GW lone win came against the Bison, edging out HU, 2-3.
Paz Dozie-Nnamah and
Elizabeth Drelling lead the attack while
Bella Bowman returns as the veteran libero.
GEORGETOWN
Georgetown returns to the floor after missing 2019 due to COVID-19. Offensively, the Hoyas are led by
Elissa Barbosa, who tallied 260 kills during her sophomore year. Senior libero
Jessica Cusi is back for GU, recording a team-high 431 digs in the 2019 campaign.
GEORGE MASON
Mason comes into the fall season after going 5-10 overall in the spring. Last year, the Patriots fell in straight sets (23-25,6-25,17-25) versus Howard at Burr Gymnasium.
Peyton Ehmke and
Katie Parmalee spearhead the attack, finishing with first (138 kills) and second (119 kills), respectively, on the team a year ago.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Sept. 3-4, the Bison travel to Durham, N.C., for the Duke Invitational where they will face the College of Charleston, Miami (Ohio) and the host Blue Devils.
