“Where Are They Now?” Featuring Dr. William M. Harris, Sr.

Former football player turned professor

WASHINGTON (June 3, 2021) – Dr. William M. Harris Sr. attended Howard University where he played football for the Bison.
 
After earning his undergraduate degree from HU in physics, Harris went onto to the University of Washington where he received his master's and doctoral degrees in urban planning.
 
Throughout his professional career, he has been an activist and advocate for the oppressed, specifically African-Americans. His career includes research physicist, professional planner, and university teacher/scholar.
 
His professional travels have taken him across the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas (North & South).
 
Now, Harris is a retired professor emeritus of Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Martin Luther King Visiting Professorship.
 
Although retired, he continues to publish and perform pro bono advocacy work in inner city communities. His hobbies are hunting and reading. Harris also has a twin.

The weekly series of "Where Are They Now?" appears each Thursday throughout the year.
 
The series will feature former student-athletes from all sports and eras, highlighting their careers as athletes at the University and what they are presently doing.
