WASHINGTON (June 16, 2021) – Howard University media, journalism and film major
Monét Bowen continued the 2020-21 Senior Spotlight series with track teammate
Steven Imes IV (Los Angeles).
Q: What is your favorite part about track?
A: My favorite part of track was running the high hurdles. Although being on the shorter side for men's hurdles, it felt good working on a physically, challenging skill.
Q: How did you get started in track?
A: I got started with track during my freshman year of high school. In my second week, I ran into a friend from elementary school and he said to tryout.
Q: What kept you motivated?
A: Although I was not always the best, seeing my progression while staying consistent kept me motivated.
Q: Who is your favorite athlete and why?
A:
Serena Williams (Tennis superstar) is my favorite because no matter the circumstances, she stays focused and determined.
Q: What's your favorite memory at Howard?
A: My favorite memory is definitely going to Ghana with the School of Business (SOB), doing a consulting project with a designer fashion company.
Q: Plans after graduation?
A: After graduation, I'll be moving to the Bay area (California) to work at Cisco Systems as a Marketing Specialist, bridging relationships between clients and other teams.
Q: What or who will you miss at Howard?
A: I'll miss competing for the track & field (T&F) program. Besides sprints, T&F isn't a sport you can just pick up and continue to perform at a high level, especially hurdles.
Also, I'll miss training and competing to run, jump, and throw every day.
Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: I would tell future Bison to maximize their college experience because those four years fly quickly. Obviously, studying and earning good grades are important, but it's just as important to make time for friends while being involved in extracurricular activities outside of the classroom.
Q: Who would you like to thank?
A: I would like to thank my coaches, particularly Coach
David Oliver (Howard Director of Track & Field), for investing in me since I first walked onto the team.
I'd also like to thank my professors for providing personal and professional guidance.
Lastly, I want to thank my family for support throughout my college years.
