Senior Spotlight: The Grad Edition…Featuring Kishaun Carter

Catching up with New Jersey native Kishaun Carter

WASHINGTON (May 25, 2021) – Howard University media, journalism, and film major rising senior Monét Bowen continued the 2020-21 Senior Spotlight series with a graduate edition, featuring track teammate KiShaun Carter (Brick, N.J.).

Q: What is your favorite part about track?
A: My favorite part about track is the accountability because you're the person that has to show up and push yourself. You can't rely on anyone else to make you get better besides yourself.

Q: How did you get started in track?
A: I got started in eighth grade when I was told to try out for the team. I missed the spring football signups, so I figured why not (lol).

When I started, I was a high jumper and had no idea what I was doing. I didn't take it seriously until I got over my fear of hurdles in 10th grade, which changed my life.

Q: What kept you motivated?
A: My motivation came from the love of hurdling because it was challenging and I always wanted to improve. No matter how many times I fell, I always got back up. It awakened this fire in my soul, which I fell in love.

The hunger of getting better and setting goals for myself encouraged me to stay motivated.

Q: If you were not competing in track, what other sport would you do?
A: If it wasn't for track, I would have played football. I don't see myself in any other sport besides track and football.

Q: Who is your favorite athlete and why?
A: My favorite athlete is NBA star John Wall because of his drive and constantly giving back in his community.

Q: What's your favorite memory at Howard?
A: My favorite memory is 2019 HU Homecoming because it's always a great time and an unforgettable experience.

Q: Plans after graduation?
A: My plans are to go attend graduate school, pursuing a physical therapy degree.

Q: What or who will you miss at Howard?
A: I will miss my teammates because of our close bond. We've been through many challenging times, I miss them every day.

Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: My advice is to experience new things and don't limit yourself. Please explore The District (Washington, D.C.), it is a beautiful place.

These are the best years of your life, so enjoy everything because the time will fly quickly; thus, make the most of it.

Q: Who would you like to thank?
A: I'd like to thank the coaching staff, my teammates and friends for the everlasting memories I made at Howard University.
