Men’s Tennis Suffers Setback Versus Hoyas

Freshmen duo wins doubles match

WASHINGTON (April 10, 2021) – Howard University men's tennis team suffered a setback at the hands of crosstown foe Georgetown (GU), 0-7, at The Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's (WTEF) East Capitol Campus in Southeast D.C.
 
Despite the setback, freshmen duo Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and Gabe Knowles (Wind Gap, Pa.) earned a decisive victory over GU's Derek Raskopf and Andrew Rozanov, 6-2.
 
In singles competition, senior captain Roger Lyn (Kingston, Jamaica) dropped a hard, fought three-set contest against the Hoyas' Mark Militzer (6-4, 4-6, 12-14).
 
Second-year Bison Romani Mayers (Bridgetown, Barbados) lost his first singles match of the season, falling to Georgetown's Luke Ross, 5-7, 5-7.
 
The following weekend (April 16-17), both teams travel up the Beltway to meet Loyola (Md.) and conference foe Coppin State. Friday's contest (April 16) versus the Greyhounds start at 3 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. match time for Saturday's (April 17) clash with the Eagles.
