GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 10, 2021) – Seniors
Jessika Gbai (Philadelphia) and
Destiny Stanford (Woolwhich Township, N.J.) put on incredible performances, leading the Howard University women's track & field team into Greensboro, N.C. at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by the North Carolina A&T State Aggies.
Gbai competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes where she excelled. After reaching the 100-meter finals, she ran a personal best (11.52) while placing fifth overall. Junior
Kennedy Lewis (Atlanta) and senior
Ameenah Saalih (Willingboro, N.J.) also reached the finals, earning sixth (12.01) and seventh (12.02), respectively.
Then, the Philadelphia native shattered her own school mark in the 200-meter, clocking in at a blazing 22.98, which finished fourth on the day and 10th nationally.
For Stanford, her comeback year continues with a victory in the 1500-meter run. The New Jersey product etched a 4:35.35 time, just missing her school mark of 4:35.14.
In the 100-meter hurdles, freshman
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) made the finals and took sixth overall with a 13.88 mark.
Other noteworthy performance on the track included junior
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) receiving third place in the 400-meter hurdles, registering a new personal best (1:00.56).
In the field, sophomore
Minyarn Smalls (Cary, N.C.) won her flight and finished 13
th overall (12.44m; 40'8").
On April 24, Director of Track and Field
David Oliver and the Bison return to North Carolina A&T State for the Aggie Classic.
