WASHINGTON (March 19, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team took down rival Morgan State (MSU) in straight sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-23) at Burr Gymnasium and snapped its seven-match slide.
Junior
Kailyn Williams (Arlington, Texas) led the way, fall just shy of a double-double (11 kills and nine digs). Fellow classmate
Marcelle Butler (Canton, Ga.) added 11 kills and four digs in the win.
Howard (3-9, 2-8 MEAC) dominated MSU in the first two sets, recording a .308 hitting percentage with 25 kills in games one and two combined.
Morgan State's Mykaela Ross delivered a kill and pulled the Lady Bears within one midway through set three, 12-11, but HU responded with four consecutive points to create separation, 16-11.
MSU (4-4, 3-2 MEAC) made a late push in game three, but Butler ended the contest with a match-winning kill to secure the victory.
Junior setter
Milexa Cardona (Kissimmee, Fla.) registered 32 assists, five digs and three total blocks in the win.
MSU's Jada Bivins fell a dig shy of a double-double, finishing with 15 assists and nine digs in a losing effort.
On March 22, HU travels back to Dover, Del., for their final road test of the season against Delaware State. First-serve is slated for 6 p.m. at Memorial Hall.
