Bison Fall Short Against Hoyas Despite Foster’s Career Night

Virginia native leads the way in loss to Georgetown

WASHINGTON (December 15, 2021) – Howard University graduate Kyle Foster (Hampton, Va.) dropped a career-high 26 points, including seven three-pointers, but his effort was not enough as the Bison fell short, 73-85, to Georgetown (GU).

With the loss, HU falls to 5-5 overall and Georgetown improves to 6-4 on the season and remains undefeated against Howard.

Three Bison scored in double figures, led by Foster's 26 points on  7-for-12 shooting from beyond the arc. Fellow classmate Tai Bibbs (Chicago) was also a key player, contributing 16 points  and two assists.

HU started off strong, jumping out to a 31-22 lead midway through the first half but costly turnovers led to a 15-2 Georgetown run that put the Hoyas ahead, 33-37. That was the last time Howard held the lead.

"Our shot selection really hurt our defense," said Howard Men's Basketball head coach Kenneth Blakeney after the game. "They were able to create turnovers and get long rebounds that led to easy baskets in transition. We weren't able to recover from that moment."

Georgetown guard Donald Carey started the second half with a four-point play and extended the Hoyas' advantage to double digits, 50-39, which climbed to as much as 18 (74-56) midway through the second half.

Howard pulled within four points, 52-56, but GU regained the momentum and never looked back.

Overall, the Hoyas shot over 55-percent (32-of-58), including 44-percent (7-of-16) from downtown. GU freshman guard Tyler Beard led the way with a career-high 23 points.

"They're a tremendous three-point shooting team," Blakeney continued. "One of their big weapons, Kaiden Rice, wasn't available tonight and he's probably their best three-point shooter. The transitions and turnovers are like a pick-six and they really hurt us."

Three-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week freshman guard Elijah Hawkins (Washington) had 11 points and five assists while redshirt sophomore Steve Settle, III (Glenarden, Md.) added nine points and pair of assists, but found himself in foul trouble down the stretch.

HU continues its seven-game road trip Saturday (Dec. 18) at the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic in Newark, N.J., against North Carolina A&T State University. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Prudential Center.
