TOWSON, MD -- The Howard University women's basketball team fell to the hot shooting Tigers of Towson University 96-52 on Saturday afternoon in SECU Arena to close out the month of November.
Howard fell to 2-4, Towson improved to 5-1.
The Bison came strong out of the gate, recording a 6-2 run in the first three minutes stapled by a Krislyn Marsh [Houston, TX] jumper. The Tigers used a 6-0 run on three-straight layups to take a 6-8 lead with 5:47 remaining in the first quarter. Towson closed out the first quarter on a 12-5 run, when Marsh scored on a driving layup to close the gap, 20-13 as time expired.
Towson opened the second quarter on a 15-0 run, extending the lead to 35-13 with 5:43 left in the second quarter. Howard's Nyla Cooper [Fayetteville, NC] pause the bleeding, recording another three-pointer. After a made layup by Towson, Cooper knocked in another three-point shot to cut the lead, 40-19. The Tigers added two made baskets when Iyanna Warren [Accokeek, MD] made a mid-range jumper as time expired in the first half. The Bison went into intermission trailing 44-21.
Towson continued the momentum into the second half, cruising to a 96-52 victory.
Freshman guard, Cooper recorded a career-high 17 points while also leading the Bison in minutes with 27, shooting 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, and going 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Marsh joined her in double-figures, recording 10 points and three blocks. Brooklyn Fort-Davis got it done on the boards, recording seven [4 offensive, 3 defensive].
· Howard shot 6-of-18 from beyond the arc, a season-best.
· Towson outrebounded the Bison 52-23 and outscored Howard 48-18 in the paint.
