NORFOLK, Va. (November 17, 2021) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference unveiled its 2021 women's volleyball all-academic team where Howard University led the way with a dozen student-athletes acknowledged for their hard work and dedication off the court. The announcement came Wednesday morning.
Among the Bison recognized included:
Nina Askew (Fairfax, Va.);
Busisiwe Banda (Cedar Park, Texas);
Jennifer Bolden (Los Angeles);
Milexa Cardona (Kissimmee, Fla.);
Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.);
Ariel Finch (Los Angeles);
Amari Patterson (Waukegan, Ill.);
Alex Smith (New Orleans, La.);
Carin Smith (Frisco, Texas);
Kendall Smith (Glenview, Ill.);
Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) and
Ana Williams (Baker, La.).
"I want to congratulate our women's volleyball student-athletes for maintaining a 3.0 or better grade point average," MEAC Commissioner Dr
. Dennis E. Thomas said. "The ultimate goal is to develop and graduate our student-athletes to be productive citizens in our society."
Overall, the MEAC honored 65 student-athletes from the conference's eight institutions who achieved academic success during the 2020-21 academic year.
MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
On Nov. 19-21, Howard hosts the 2021 MEAC Volleyball Championship inside Burr Gymnasium. HU serves as the No. 1 seed and will take on No. 8 South Carolina State in the Quarterfinal Rounds. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
