WASHINGTON (October 29, 2021) – Howard University women's swimming & diving team had several outstanding individual performances Friday night, but was not enough as the Bison fell to crosstown foe American, 144-79.
In front of a packed house at Burr Pool, HU earned a pair of victories while seeing multiple Bison land on the school's all-time performance list.
Sophomore
Alana Josey (York, Pa.) won the 1000 Free, fall just short of setting the all-time mark with a 10:58.29 time (second-best in program history). Fellow classmate
Kaliyah Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) joined Josey in the 1000 Free where she registered the 10
th-fastest in school history (11:42.09).
Josey also competed in the 200 Fly, finishing runner-up with the fifth-fastest time in school history (2:13.89).
In the 200 Back, juniors
Courtney Connolly (White Lake, Mich.) and
Breyahna Tyme (Ontario, Canada) placed third (2:16.99) and fourth (2:17.83), respectively. As a result, both Bison sit eighth and ninth, respectively, in the program's record book.
Second-year Bison
Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.) saw success in the 50 Free (24.38) and 100 Free (53.68), finishing runner-up in both events. The New York product clocked the eighth and 10
th best marks in school history, respectively.
Other notable performances in the pool included sophomore
Michaela Spears (Chicago) competing in the 400 IM and recording the sixth-fastest time in program history (4:51.05) and newcomer
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) taking second in the 500 Free (5:25.10) with the ninth-best mark in school history.
On the board, junior
Teyana Johnson (San Antonio) won the 1-meter dive with a score of 204.83.
On Nov. 6, Howard competes in its first road dual meet of the season at Virginia Military Institute. First race starts at 1 p.m.
