ORANGEBURG, S.C. (October 14, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team defeated South Carolina State (SCSU) in three sets (25-23, 25-14, 25-17).
With the win, HU improved to 7-11 (4-2 MEAC) while the Lady Bulldogs remain winless on the season (0-15, 0-6 MEAC).
Collectively, the Bison produced a .346 hitting percentage, led by middle blockers
Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) and
Ana Williams (Baker, La.) each with seven kills in the win.
Late into the first set, SCSU's Eleshia Thompson delivered a kill and tied the game at 23 apiece. Moments later, sophomore
Jennifer Bolden (Los Angeles) recorded a kill and gave the Bison set point, 24-23, followed by a service ace from rookie
Cimone Woodard (Missouri City, Texas), 25-23.
After dominating game two, 25-14, HU fell behind early in set three, 4-5, but regained the momentum midway through to take the third set, 25-17, and sweep the Lady Bulldogs, 3-0.
Woodard had a match-high four total blocks (one solo) while setters
Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) and
Milexa Cardona (Kissimmee, Fla.) registered 12 assists each in the victory.
For SCSU, Maria Louerio had a match-leading 15 kills in the loss.
Friday (Oct. 15), HU continues its road swing in Durham, N.C., against North Carolina Central. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
