“Where Are They Now?” Featuring Martin Ewing

Former diving standout turned psychologist

WASHINGTON (August 27, 2020) – Leaving his home in Chicago, Martin Ewing joined the Howard University Swimming & Diving Team in 1994 where he was a four-year member (1994-98), primarily competing in the men's 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diving events. In swimming events, he took part in the 100-meter breaststroke, 200-meter individual medley and various team relays.
 
In 1995, Ewing broke Howard's longest standing athletic record at the time, scoring a 309.05 in the men's 1-meter springboard event while setting another record in the 3-meter springboard two years later (1997) with a 396.00 mark.
 
In addition to his record-setting performances that remain unbroken, he was acknowledged for numerous academic achievements. Ewing's academic accolades include the Dean's List, All-Academic honors, Bison Award for Academic Excellence and the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Award. Also, he was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society.
 
In 1998, he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. After graduating from HU, Ewing earned a master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology where he became a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor before serving as a Coordinator and then Director of the Children and Family Division within a non-profit organization.
 
Since then, Ewing has presented on the topic of creating and sustaining healthy relationships to college students at Indiana University and sat on a marriage education panel through the Chicago Urban League.
 
He has also co-hosted forums for individuals seeking to establish and maintain incredibly fulfilling relationships.
 
Currently, the former Bison lives in Chicago with his wife and two children while working as a Behavioral Health Coordinator for a major insurance company.

The new weekly series of "Where Are They Now?" appears each Thursday throughout the year.
 
The series will feature former student-athletes from all sports and eras, highlighting their careers as athletes at the University and what they are presently doing.
