“Where Are They Now?” Featuring Courtney Young

Former MEAC Player of the Year turned travel nurse

WASHINGTON (June 4, 2020) – Courtney Young arrived at the Hilltop from Sherwood, Ark., where she was a four-year member of the Howard University softball team (2007-10). Over the course of her collegiate career, Young earned several awards while breaking numerous records along the way.

Young made an immediate impact during her freshman campaign (2007), winning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Year en route to guiding the program to its first conference title and first-ever berth to the NCAA Tournament. She was named tournament MVP and received All-MEAC First Team honors.

The following season (2008), the Arkansas native capped off her Bison career with MEAC Player of the Year. She boasted a .459 batting average, which ranked seventh in the country, while leading the league in slugging percentage (.757) and hits per game (1.46). She also made the Southeastern All-Region Team for that same season.

In her final two seasons, the three-time All-MEAC First Team selection steered HU to a pair of MEAC Northern Division titles (2009 & 2010) after producing a 23-5 league record during that span.

Throughout her career, Young was consistently among the conference's top sluggers in several hitting categories. This achievement extended to the national level, landing in the NCAA Division I softball career list with a .413 hitting average. Among these accomplishments are also several NCAA records that have yet to be broken.

After earning a degree in Political Science, Young returned home where she is currently working as a senior travel nurse recruiter for Travel Nurse Across America.
