Senior Profile Featuring Daniel Hart

A chat with DMV native Daniel Hart

WASHINGTON (June 23, 2020) – Howard University rising senior sports management major Nicholas Turk caught up with teammate and DMV native Daniel Hart (Silver Spring, Md.) from the men's soccer team, asking 11 questions for the 2019-20 Senior Profile series.

Q: What is your favorite part about soccer?
A: My favorite part about soccer is the freedom it gives you to express yourself.

Q: How did you and soccer meet?
A: Both my older siblings played soccer, so as soon as I was old enough to play, my parents signed me up.

Q: What motivated you and what kept you motivated?
A: From a young age, I've always aimed to play professionally, so my desire to play at that level always kept me motivated.

Q: If you were not a soccer player, what sport would you play?
A: Honestly, I don't know. When I was younger, I took part in Tae Kwon Do, basketball and track. So, most likely, I would have pursued one of those sports.

Q: Who is your favorite athlete and why?
A: My favorite athlete is former France standout Thierry Henry because he always had fun playing the game, that's one of the reasons why I fell in love with soccer.

Q: Why Howard?
A: Coach Phillip Gyau (Howard Men's Soccer head coach) and Coach Emile Mbouh (Howard Men's Soccer assistant coach) played a massive part in my decision to attend Howard. I've known them since I was 11 years old, so I knew they would have my best interests and would always be there to help me if needed.

Q: What is your favorite memory at Howard?
A: My favorite memory is scoring my first-career goal during my freshman year against Robert Morris (Oct. 1, 2016). It was a home match and the goal gave me confidence that not only I could play at this level but have an impact as well.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: After graduation, I plan on continuing my soccer career at the highest level.

Also, becoming a mobile app developer. So, if anyone have any app ideas, please send my way (lol).

Q: What will you miss when you leave Howard?
A: I'll miss the genuine brotherhood with my teammates.

Q: What do you say to those who come next?
A: To those coming next, my advice is to embrace everything Howard has to offer whether it's good or bad. HU offers a unique experience that you can't get anywhere else.

Also, you're paving the way for those coming after you. It's bigger than you, so make those who came before you proud.

Q: Who would you like to thank?
A: I would like to thank all my coaches and teammates over the years. But most importantly, I would like to thank my parents for their endless support. Without them, I wouldn't be the person I am today.
