IRVING, Texas (April 15, 2020) – The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) revealed its 2020 NFF Hampshire Honor Society where Howard University seniors
Kyle Anthony (Miramar, Fla.) and
Merrick Sims II (Atlanta) were recognized for their academic excellence off the field. The announcement came Wednesday morning.
The list comprised of college football student-athletes from all divisions (FBS, FCS, Division II & III and NAIA), who maintained a cumulative 3.2 grade point average or better throughout their collegiate careers.
"We are pleased to honor another impressive group of athletes as part of this year's Hampshire Honor Society," said NFF President & CEO
Steve Hatchell. "For more than a decade, the Hampshire Honor Society has served as a powerful vehicle for schools to recognize their college football players who have distinguished themselves both academically and athletically, and we congratulate the schools and each of these young men for their commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives."
In December 2019, Anthony graduated from The Mecca with a bachelor's degree in marketing after becoming the school's all-time reception leader. He finished his career with 203 receptions for 2,744 yards and 23 touchdowns.
In his final season, Sims saw action in 11 contests for the Bison. Academically, the Atlanta native has built a reputation inside the classroom, being named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Commissioner's All-Academic Team twice (2018 & 2019). In May 2020, he will graduate with a bachelor's degree in human performance.
In the Society's 14-year span, an impressive 1,432 students from 364 institutions qualified for membership this season.
The Hampshire Honor Society represents an important component in the organization's rich history as an innovator in promoting the scholar-athlete ideal, which began in 1959 with the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards.
First-year head coach
Larry Scott and the Bison open its 2020 campaign in Canton versus the Central State Marauders (Sunday, Sept. 6).
