NORFOLK, Va. (September 22, 2025) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its football weekly honors where Howard University sophomore linebacker
Ja'Quavion Smith (Wingate, N.C.) took home the league's Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
In the annual P&G Truth & Service Classic (Sept. 20), Smith filled the stat sheet against rival Hampton, producing seven total tackles (four solos), three tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. His efforts led Howard to a 34-7 victory over the Pirates, snapping an eight-game slide, dating back to 2014.
This season, Smith ranks among the MEAC leaders in sacks (t-3
rd) and pass breakups (t-3
rd).

Travis Kerney (Sebring, Fla.) and rookie defensive back
Ben Chandler (Washington) received honorable mention.
North Carolina Central running back Chris Mosley was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week. Fellow Eagles Trevon Humphrey and Kaleb Robison earned Offensive Lineman of the Week and Specialist of the Week, respectively. Morgan State running back Randall Nauden was selected Rookie of the Week.
Howard travels to Richmond, Va., Saturday (Sept. 27) to take on the Spiders of Richmond. Kickoff at 2 p.m.
