WASHINGTON (April 15, 2020) – Howard University junior sport management major, minor in journalism,
Jayla Thornton had a chance to speak with her teammate
Sarah Edmond (Freeport, N.Y.), asking 10 questions for the 2019-20 senior profile series.
Q: What's your favorite part of basketball?
A: Well, I'm a scorer, so finding different ways to score the basketball is my favorite part.
Q: How did you get started in basketball?
A: I started playing basketball when I was in second grade.
Q: What kept you motivated?
A: I just had a love for the game. I didn't really take basketball seriously until I got into high school.
Q: If you weren't competing in basketball, what other sport would you do?
A: If I didn't play basketball, I would probably run track because I started running track before I played basketball.
Q: Who is your favorite athlete and why?
A: My favorite athlete is the late Kobe Bryant because he exemplified the will and mentality that every great athlete should possess.
Q: What's your favorite memory at Howard?
A: My favorite memory is scoring my 1,000th career point.
Q: Plans after graduation?
A: I plan on working in the sports and entertainment industry.
Q: What or who will you miss at Howard?
A: Definitely, I will miss the atmosphere because you can only get this type of atmosphere at an HBCU.
Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: My advice is to enjoy your time at Howard and pursue everything you inspire to be.
Q: Who would you like to thank?
A: First and foremost, I would like to thank God. Also, my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for their help in navigating me through my college experience.
About Edmond
In four years, Edmond finished her decorated career with 1,246 points in 106 contests. During that span, she won numerous accolades along the way.
In her junior campaign, she was named to the 2018-19 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Conference team. That same season, she scored her 1,000th career point at the MEAC Basketball Tournament.
Entering her senior year, she was named to the 2019-20 MEAC Preseason All-Conference Team before suffering a season-ending injury during league play.
In May 2020, the New York native graduates after majoring in Sports Management and plans on pursuing a career in the sports and entertainment industry.
