WASHINGTON (March 12, 2020) – Howard University women's tennis team fell to crosstown rival George Washington (GWU), 2-5, despite single victories from freshmen 
Alexandra Blackwell (Austin, Texas) and 
Hana El Sherif (Cairo, Egypt).
 
El Sherif held on and defeated GWU's Alexandra Vesikallio in straight sets (7-6, 7-6), earning her second collegiate singles win.
 
After dropping the first set, 1-6, Blackwell rebounded with a 6-3 set two victory and forced a third set. Game Three saw the Texas native knock off George Washington's Luciana Kunkel, 10-5, while recording her first collegiate singles win.
 
GWU won the other four singles matches in consecutive sets.
 
In doubles competition, the Colonials took all three matches.
 
Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, all spring sports competitions, including men's and women's tennis, are being suspended through the end of the Spring 2020 semester.
