Lacrosse Drops Season Opener

Freshmen Skeete-Ridley, Mallory, and Kates led the offensive charge

CLINTON, SC -- The Howard University Bison Lacrosse team dropped their season opener versus the Presbyterian Bluehose 19-5 Friday afternoon in Bailey Memorial Stadium.

Howard's true freshmen paced the Bison attack, claiming all five goals, making a strong statement in game one.

Freshman Attacker Josie Mallory (Charlottesville, Va.) made her first collegiate goal and the first goal of the season in the first five minutes of the game. Mallory continued to dominate the midfield and helped the Bison transition the ball up and down the field. Mallory scored her second goal in the second half.

Freshman Midfielder Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrolltown, Md.) recorded a solid collegiate debut scoring her first two goals in the first half, one of an assist by returner and team captain, Midfielder Lailah Robey (Chesapeake Beach, Md.). Skeete-Ridley also scooped up three ground balls for the Bison, then she went on to fire one more ball into the back of the net, during the second half.

Presbyterian College outshot Howard 37- 17.

Howard's Freshman Attacker Sydney Kates (Cleveland, Ohio) scored the last goal, assisted by Robey. Outside of leading in assists, Robey also collected three ground balls in the dual.
