WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Howard men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start, falling 64-56 to Coppin State Monday night in Burr Gymnasium.

Charles Williams paced the Bison with a game-high 23 points, including 12 in the second half, while grabbing five defensive rebounds. Senior Guard
Nate Garvey added 12 and Freshman Guard Wayne Bristol Jr. added 10 to join Williams in double-figures. Junior Forward
Zion Cousins brought down a team-high 11 rebounds.
Andre Toure added seven points off the bench, shooting 3-of-4 from the field, two rebounds, and a steal.
After a knocking down a pair of Williams free throw to put the Bison up by two 9-7, the Eagles would go on a 30-13 run to open a 37-22 lead into intermission.
Howard was held to 27.3 percent (9-of-33) from the floor in the first half.
In the second half, Howard climbed their way out of a rut and pieced together a second-half to cut their deficit down to five with 1:42 left in regulation after being down by 20 points. The Eagles answered connecting six free throws to put the game out of reach.
The Bison shot 36.5 percent from the floor ( 22-of-62) and 24 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-25) while Coppin St. shot 46.8 percent from the floor and 33 percent from beyond the arc. The Eagles outrebounded Howard 40-31.
