WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Howard University Bison fell to the Bellarmine University Knights, 84-63 in Burr Gymnasium, Sunday evening.
Sophomore Steve Settle, III scored a career-high 23 points in the loss.
Howard's senior Kyle Foster made the first basket of the game, setting off the Bison with a three-point lead off a Khalil Robinson assist. Foster sank another from downtown off a Jordan Wood to extend the lead 6-3, two minutes into the contest. Foster lead the Bison's offense, recording 11 first-half points.
Settle wasn't too far behind Foster, recording 10 points in the first half and closed out the first half, sinking a three-point shot, to close the gap 45-35 into intermission.
Howard's biggest threat offensively in the first half was Dylan Penn. Penn led the Knights in the first half with 16 points. Defensively, Bellarmine's Alec Pfriem snapped up a game-high 12 defensive rebounds against the Bison.
Settle strong start continued in the second stanza, racking up 13 points for a game-high 23 points.
Joining Foster and Settle in double-figure was Freshman Jordan Wood (11), and Cam Timmons (10), his first double output this season. Wood has scored 11 points in his first two collegiate games.
The Knights out outscored the Bison bench 25-0; a first for Howard.
Howard struggled from the floor in the second half shooting 33 percent (9-of-27), ending the game shooting 38.5 percent from the floor (20-of-52).
