WASHINGTON (December 3, 2020) – Jason M. DeCuir (BBA, MBA, BCL, JD, LLM) earned a degree in Business Administration while being an Academic All-American and placekicker for the Howard University Football Team.
After leaving HU, Decuir earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Louisiana Tech University, a Juris Doctor degree and a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, and a Master of Laws degree in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.
Previous experience in the private sector includes being a tax attorney and partner at several law firms.
He also founded a consulting firm that specializes in tax advocacy and governmental affairs; however, in the public sector, he served as Chief of Staff, Assistant Secretary and Executive Counsel at the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) from 2011-14. In these roles, he was an advisor to three Secretaries and to the Governor on legal and policy issues affecting state taxation.
Currently, DeCuir is partner and owner of Advantous Consulting, Louisiana's premier tax consulting firm offering customizable state and local tax solutions. Jason oversees business development and marketing, appeals and dispute resolution, and legislative matters within Advantous.
In DeCuir's experience as a tax policy expert, he has been appointed to serve on many councils and commissions. Most recently, he was appointed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to serve as Chairman of the Louisiana Economic Recovery Task Force. He was also appointed by the Speaker as Chairman of the HR 31 Centralized Sales and Use Tax Study Group.
Other councils and commissions on which he has served include LABI's Taxation & Finance Issue Council (Chairman), the Louisiana Sales Tax Streamlining and Modernization Commission, the PAR Constitutional Advisory Council, and the Mississippi Department of Revenue Business Advisory Council.
This experience causes him to be a frequent lecturer on state and local tax policy at national tax conferences around the country, including the Council on State Taxation (COST), Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT), Multi-State Tax Commission (MTC), and Southeastern Association of Tax Administrators (SEATA), among others. It is also common for DeCuir to appear on state and local television and radio shows as an expert on tax matters.
In his spare time, DeCuir has served on the Boards of Baton Rouge Food Bank, Boys and Girls Club, Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School, Inspire Charter Academy, LABI, Salvation Army, and Young Leaders Academy. He is also a member of the Federal, State and Local Bar Associations in Louisiana.
Apart from these activities, DeCuir enjoys golfing, boating and being a color commentator for high school football on a major television network in Louisiana.
