WASHINGTON (December 22, 2020) – Howard University Department of Athletics continued its "Bison 5@5" series where a member from the HU community is asked five questions within five minutes.
This week's guest features former Olympic medalist and Director of Track and Field
David Oliver, who was interviewed by Howard Football and Basketball broadcast talent
Trevin A. Jones.
Oliver enters his fourth year at the helm after taking over prior to the 2017 cross country season. Since his arrival, the program has excelled in competition and inside the classroom.
On the track, Oliver has sent six Bison to the NCAA Outdoor Prelims while training multiple Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champions along the way.
Last season, the MEAC uncovered its 2020 Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Team where the program witnessed a league-leading 24 Bison make the list.
Oliver returns to his alma mater as a highly decorated professional athlete. He was the 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist in the 110-meter hurdles, and the 2013 World Champion in the same event.
On the indoor track and field stage, he earned the Gold medal in the 2008 USA Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles and bronze in the 2010 World Championships. He maintained top 10 rankings in the world for 11 consecutive seasons and has received several accolades, including the 2010 Jesse Owens Award, which recognizes the USA's Most Outstanding Track Athlete. A two-time All-American as student-athlete at HU, Oliver was inducted into the 2014 Howard University Athletics Hall of Fame and the 2016 MEAC Hall of Fame.
