Turnovers Doom Bison on Second Day of Paradise Jam

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Howard University Bison could not overcome 21 turnovers, dropping game two of the 2020 Paradise Jam against Queens University of Charlotte, 85-71, Friday evening in the Walter E. Washington Event Center.

Howard saw three Bison scored in double-figures Makur Maker (12), Steve Settle (12), Sam Green (12). Green pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

A 17-7 Royals run over a five-minute span to take a 36-20 lead with five minutes left in the first half. During that span, Howard committed five turnovers, while Queen shot 8-for-10 from the floor.

Both squads would trade baskets the rest of the way; Howard went into halftime down 47-32.

The Bison turnover struggle continues to start the second half; the Royals swiped away three possessions over the first ten minutes.

In the final nine minutes, Howard outscored Queen, 24-16, led by Maker (8). The Bison went 12-for-14 from the charity line in that span.

Howard struggled offensively, shooting 44 percent (24-of-54) from the floor and 10 percent (2-of-19) from beyond the arc; Queen outscored Howard 23-3 points off of turnovers. The Bison outrebounded the Royals 39-32.

The Bison will close out the 2020 Paradise Jam versus DMV foe George Mason for a scheduled 3 p.m. tipoff on ESPN3.
