Howard Alum Wins Emmy Award

Howard University’s Tiffany Hoyd Awarded Sports Emmy

WASHINGTON (November 2, 2020) – Over the summer, Howard University alum Tiffany Hoyd was awarded a Sports Emmy in the Outstanding Studio Show-Daily category for her contributions as a Broadcasting Associate for MLB Network's MLB Tonight.

Hoyd started working with the network promptly after graduating Magna Cum Laude from HU's Cathy Hughes School of Communications in May 2019.

At the ripe young age of 23, she has compiled an impressive resume. Hoyd worked in sports at Howard as soon as she stepped on campus as a freshman. She initially served as a video coordinator and manager for the football team before later becoming the first female color analyst for the HU football webcast of games. She also provided occasional color commentary for the webcast of Howard's men's and women's basketball teams.

Additionally, she served as a contributing writer for Howard's wire service, HUNews Service, and its campus paper, The Hilltop.

Hoyd parlayed her wide range of experience into being awarded a fellow with the Bill Rhoden Fellows Institute for 2018-19. The Rhoden Fellows Initiative is a one-year training program for the next generation of sports journalists from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), headed by Undefeated editor-at-large and former New York Times award-winning columnist, William C. Rhoden.

Hoyd has a podcast, Hogs Haven Podcast Network, on the Washington Football Team that she hosts and she is currently in her first year of Law School at North Carolina Central University.
