WASHINGTON (October 1, 2020) – Hailing from Big D (Dallas),
Shenikwa Carr was a three-year member of the Howard University women's soccer team (1995-97).
After her collegiate career, the Dallas native graduated magna cum laude from HU with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.
Carr lived all over the country after graduating from The Mecca, starting her career as a journalist for The Daily Tax Report where she covered tax and budget issues on Capitol Hill.
After D.C., she moved to the Big Apple (New York City) where she worked in media relations and account management for Weber Shandwick before becoming a producer at the FOX News Channel.
Her on-air work in NYC took her to Amarillo, Texas, where she served as a reporter for KAMR-TV. From there, Carr quickly moved on to become the morning anchor at WNWO-TV in Toledo, Ohio. She later became the first African-American female to serve as a main anchor in the market.
After 10 years, Carr left journalism and returned home to Dallas where she rejoined Weber Shandwick. She was tasked with media relations and influencer engagement for a variety of clients, including Verizon Wireless Omni Hotels, Bank of America, and the U.S. Army. Every campaign resulted in phenomenal media results, including national placements in the New York Times, USA Today, NPR, The Daily Buzz, O Magazine and Men's Health.
Since 2015, Carr has been consulting for several PR agencies. This fall, she realized a childhood passion and became an educator for her local school district.
During her spare time, Carr can be found cheering on her two daughters, Kennedy (13) and Kayla (11), at one of their all-star cheer competitions. It is not uncommon for her to also cheer for their dad, Jon, who is the director of college scouting for the New York Jets.
